So, it’s been a while, apparently! How time flies.
I’ve updated the site to the newest version of WordPress, and hopefully this will resolve some of the speed issues we’ve been experiencing.
Back to the project stuff, there’s been a lot of progress since my last update. Project 2499 has the first draft now completed, I’ve completed the first draft of a new short film called “The Phone” which will hopefully go into production soon, and I’m refining my pub sketch. So, all in all, lots of productivity has been had. Expect more updates soon.
Still here, still working away. Unfortunately real life sometimes has to be take over, and that it has done. Done a little more work on my untitled project and project 2499 is alive but going very slowly. More updates soon!

Deryk
Well, it’s me again… took me long enough to get around to updating this blog! Summer has been and gone, it’s well and truly autumn now, and for Scotland that means a return to sub-10oC temperatures and a need for long overcoats.
Project-wise, I am currently working on the first draft of a screenplay for a new comedy short. This project is likely to be completed prior to my resuming work on Project 2499, while Mike beavers away on the script for that film.
So what is my new comedy? You’ll need to wait a bit longer for some details there…
I had some time on my hands and a desire to actually create something, so I went ahead and mocked up some posters for the project. Well, technically it’s one poster, but with some variations, which I present below:

Poster Mockup 1

Poster mockup 1, alternate version
Of course more substantial things can begin once the project is a little further along, ie when the script is finalised and when it’s actually named… however I may still try out some more concepts before then if I get the time!
Finally got round to doing some more concepty stuff for the upcoming Project 2499 film currently in pre production. You can see some of the results of that here.
First up is the results from a quick test from the 550 – and I have to say it’s looking totally amazing – the focus and depth of field are fantastic, good colour reproduction all round, it’s all good. In order to give a film like appearance a few adjustments are likely to be needed, which I have mocked up below. First up, here’s a frame ‘as shot’.

Test Shot 1 - Before
Now I’m sure you’ll agree that this is looking pretty damn good already, but to sell the appearance of film we need to change a few things. Firstly, crop the image to one of the popular sizes used by motion pictures – either a 2.35:1 (as I’ve done here) or 1.85:1 ratio.
Secondly, colour grading should be used which gives the film a uniform colour, and also a slightly processed look like film. Aliens used a blue tint for the most part, so I have attempted to emulate that here.
At this stage I think that’s all that needs to be done – depth of field and frame rate are already very well catered for by the 550D. So here’s how the image looks after adjustments:

Stay tuned for part 2, where I start mocking up some artwork / concept posters
